VIENNA WOODS DIVE PROGRAM

2008 promises to be another strong year for our divers as, once again, we expect to return all of our divers from last season. Vienna Woods will be competing again in Division 1 after a very sucessful 2007 season

We expect to compete well with our returning divers, but could use some new divers for our team. We are especially looking for divers between the ages of 10 to 14. The Dive Team is open to all pool members up to the age of 17.

Younger divers need to be capable of passing their patch test in order to join. No experience is necessary to join and it is a fun and rewarding experience for all team members. Dive team practice will begin one week prior to the official pool opening.

For new divers, the coaches willlet you know tomorrow at practice if you will be diving in this meet.  Each team is allowed 32 divers and our freshman divers (10 and under) must be able to complete a front dive, back dive and optional dive. If your new diver is still attaining these skills, there will be other meet opportunities for them to dive.

For each home meet, we are obliged to supply: a referee, 2 judges, an announcer, a meet secretary, and 2 table workers.  The visiting team supplies 3 judges and 2 table workers.

  • VOLUNTEERING

I am the Dive Team  Representative, and my name is Lisa Stickel.  I can be reached at wstickel@covad.net.  Like the swim team, the dive team is run entirely by volunteers (except for our coaches).  It takes at least 10 parents to run each
meet.  We need each family to provide the dates of at least 2 meets where they can volunteer.  Positions will be assigned according to the responses I receive.  Please either email me the dates that you are available, or use sign up sheets at the pot luck.  The dates are as follows.

Please note that if you are new to the team, new divers will have at least 3 opportunities to dive in a meet – 7/10, 7/17, and 7/20.

Parents, we really need help in judging and working the scorers table. Clinics for these activities are being set up and will be posted shortly.  Please let me know how you intend to help out this year so I can start getting the schedules organized.  Home meets especially require all the help we can get.  I have been to many judges clinics and always find them helpful.

    2007 RECAP

The Vienna Woods Roll Lizard Dive Team finished the 2007 season with pride and success on many levels.  The team was awarded the Sportsmanship Award in Division 1, and finished with a 3 and 2 winning record in this highly talented and competitive division.  We will be diving again in Division 1 for the 2008 season.  Congratulations to all divers and parents for this excellent season!

Over the season, diving successes were recorded on many levels.  In the Crackerjack Meet for the newer divers, Vienna Woods produced two first place finishers – Diana Miskell for 7 year old girls and Daniel Wheeler for 9 year old boys.  In the Wally Martin 3 Meter meet, we had four divers participate and win medals for finishing in the top six places.  Jill Stickel placed second in Freshman Girls; Grayson Campbell placed third in Freshman Boys; Alison Stickel placed first in Junior Girls; and Kelly Lloyd placed sixth in Senior Girls.

Vienna Woods sent 14 divers to the Divisional Championship Meet and produced seven All Stars --  Megan Miskell, Jill Stickel, Grayson Campbell, Alison Stickel, Eli Facenda, Kelly Lloyd and Matt Wheeler.  First place finishes were recorded by Grayson Campbell in Freshman Boys and Alison Stickel in Junior Girls.  In Freshman Girls, Megan Miskell placed fourth and Jill Stickel placed sixth.  In Senior Girls, Kelly Lloyd placed sixth.  Over the season, Kelly also broke the 200 point level in the senior age group.

Practices for the 2008 season will begin on Tuesday, May 28 at 5:45 until 7:00 pm.  We welcome all divers aged six and older at any level of experience.  Coaching will be for all levels of ability.  We must have a completed registration and fee before participation is permitted.  Registration details will be forthcoming.  Please remember that the dive team can exist only with parent volunteers, so your participation is required.  This will be spelled out on the registration form.  We look forward to another exciting season of dive at Vienna Woods.

    PARENTS

Parents, we always could use more help with our meets. Please sign up to help with the meets. The success of our program depends a great deal on your volunteer efforts.  Contact Lisa Stickel, Dive Team Rep, at wstickel@covad.net.
