MINI-STARS:
Depending on ability, Mini-Star swimmers may be invited to attend the daily swim team practices. With a coach's permission, a Mini-Star may swim in an NVSL meet. Mini-Stars are considered full swim team members and participate in the Team Awards ceremony. If you would like your child evaluated before Mini-Stars begins, please contact the Coach to arrange for an evaluation during regular swim team practice. A child may be re-evaluated upon parental request for inclusion in the Mini-Stars during the swim season if space allows, though, fees will not be prorated. Full refunds, however, will be made for any child who is unable to complete the minimum requirements and a request is made to Kelli Owens, Board Member. Please note - - Mini-Stars is not a learn to swim program. Parents of registrants who cannot swim the required distance are encouraged to sign their children up for swim lessons. |

| OUR COACHES |
Our 2011 Head Coach
- Jonathan Dee (JD) - Vienna Woods
Welcomes JD! JD has an impressive resume - - - ten years experience as a USA and NVSL swimmer. Represented Commonwealth Swim Club as NVSL All-Star swimmer for ten consecutive years in all stokes. Robinson Secondary School swimmer, competing and medaling at Virginia State High School championship events in sophomore junior and senior years. JD earned several team, district, regional, and state records throughout his career with 7 All-American awards. He also swam for Machine Aquatics and represented them at numerous Sectional and National level meets. JD has been coaching for Machine Aquatics for the past three seasons as a developmental, advanced age group, and senior level coach. JD says Summer league swimming is by far the most fun level to coach due to the fact of the wide age ranges. He says he loves being on the pool deck watching swimming, teaching skills and learning about each and every individual on the team. Assistant Coaches

| Volunteering | Swim Season: It
takes a LOT
of Volunteers to run a meet
- each family must sign up for at
least SIX
Team
Volunteer Activities and one social
activity. Opportunities are varied; setting up tents/tables/chairs,
officiating, social, team support services. These
are on different days of the
week and time of the day. This is a great way to make
friends,
build a network and socialize - - as well as support your kids and your
pool. Social activities: Each week during the five-week season, we will have an activity for the whole team. Activities in the past have included bowling, movies, a craft day, making posters, and a pasta potluck dinner for the whole family. Watch for info in the weekly newsletter available Fridays at the front desk. We are hoping to plan some NEW events for the summer. Any ideas? Please let us know! Many times simply having extra hands helps make light work... Thank you in advance for your help supporting your team! |

| Vienna Woods NEEDS officials! |
Stoke and Turn, table workers, timers, referee and clerk of course are in demand. Certain positions (stroke and turn & starter) require certification (just a few hours). All others are OJT. But we NEED certified parents to help out the ones we have. Please consider becoming a certified official to support your swimmers! These jobs are easy to learn - just ask anyone who's doing one. Please feel free to contact David Schultz, our Officials' Coordinator, or our team reps. |

| Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) | The Vienna Woods Swim Team is a
member of the
Northern Virginia Swimming League. The league is composed of 103 teams
divided into18 divisions of 5-6 teams each. Divisions are
created based on strength of the teams. Vienna Woods proudly swims in
Division 2 in 2010.
Vienna Woods has an average of 150 participants each summer. We hope that through participation on our team each child will develop a love for the sport, improve aquatic skills, learn teamwork and good sportsmanship, and have fun! |
